LONDON - Sir Ian Gibson (59), former president of Nissan Europe and a vp of the Japanese parent company, will become chairman of the UK's largest newspaper group Trinity Mirror at its annual meeting on May 4.
Gibson, a serial company director, replaces Sir Victor Blank, and expressed his enthusiasm for yet another well-paid sinecure: "Trinity Mirror is one of the most exciting businesses in the UK," he said. "I am delighted to be joining the board and bringing my experience to the table as we explore further options for growth and the creation of shareholder value."
The company, which owns Mirror Group national newspapers plus a 240-strong regional stable, is under pressure from analysts and shareholders to sell the former and focus on the latter.
