The European Union's commissioner for consumer affairs, Emma Bonino is to crack down on in-pack premia after a recent spate of choking incidents. The first step is to outlaw inadequately wrapped gifts in food packs, leading to a total ban on all non-food articles in comestibles if choking accidents continue. ISP secretary general Sue Short contends that food packs in the UK strictly adhere to current regulations and commented: 'Any attempts by Brussels to impose a ban on such a long-established, popular activity has to be resisted.'
