Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks SKG is reportedly in negotiations with a number of large media agencies regarding its broadcast spot buying duties.

Currently handling the business is GSD&M in Austin, Texas, which won the creative and media buying account last year. An executive at the agency revealed that DreamWorks has been “handholding” GSD&M while it becomes acclimatised to the world of media buying for movies. Another industry insider speculated that the agency has not been getting the best prices for the studio.

DreamWorks spent $350 million on measured media in 2000 – one of its most successful years to date with box office triumphs like Gladiator and Chicken Run.

The studio is yet to comment on the reports, while GSD&M denied any knowledge of its client’s flirtation elsewhere.
