UK press baron Richard Desmond, owner of Express Newspapers and such notable fillies as Asian Babes and Nude Readers’ Wives, has postponed the launch of a Sabbath sibling for his tabloid Daily Star newspaper.
The launch, said to have been scheduled for May, is now thought unlikely before late summer or even autumn. According to insiders, the delay is due to infighting about staffing the Sunday fledgling, with the cost-conscious Desmond reputedly insisting that it be produced without additional manpower by the existing daily editorial team – a move robustly rejected by Daily Star journos.
Word from the trenches is that Desmond remains enthused by the concept of launching the Sunday title, but an injection of reality is compelling him to mull a revised business plan which incorporates additional wage and salary costs and recognizes the implications of a highly competitive market.
