NEW YORK: Dentsu, the Japanese marketing services conglomerate, is to close the two offices of DentsuNext, based in New York and Brea, California, a move attributed to the loss in July last year of the $100 million (€78m; £73m) account of American Suzuki.

The announcement of the office closures was made to DentsuNext employees last week, with 15 members of staff set to be made redundant between the agency's two offices.

DentsuNext lost the American Suzuki account to independent agency Siltanen & Partners, and will now transfer its Sharp Electronics brief to sister shop mcgarrybowen, and its Suzuki motorcycle account to its Los Angeles office.

Says Tim Andree, ceo of Dentsu America: "This was the planned closure of DentsuNext. We've tried to handle this as compassionately as we can."
