LONDON: Deloitte, better known for its beancounting expertise than media industry clairvoyance, on Wednesday published its predictions for the UK media sector in 2008.

The report, published by the firm's Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice, foresees storm clouds looming over the seemingly indefatigable online sector, with internet advertising in the firing line due to consumer antipathy and regulatory scrutiny.

Says the head of Deloitte's TMT practice, Jolyon Barker: "This year’s predictions cover a range of topics, including the growing carbon footprint of the living room; the increasingly complementary relationship between internet TV and its broadcast cousin; the decline of online piracy; and the diversification of the cinema."
