The UK Direct Marketing Association is urging the International Chambers of Commerce and a number of foreign governments to support a worldwide rollout of its e-commerce accreditation scheme, Trust UK. The upcoming consumer protection initiative will require approved sites to display the TrustUK logo.

The scheme, launched to the marketing industry in January, has already created high level interest within the European Commission, and a potential framework for a pan-European initiative has been discussed. The Australian and Japanese governments are also believed to be involved in what could become the first phase of a worldwide scheme.

The first e-traders to be accredited by TrustUK will be announced shortly, and the scheme will be launched to the public in July.
