DDB Germany’s holding company COM Communications has purchased Hamburg-headquartered direct marketing shop Bozell Direct Friends from True North. Terms were not disclosed.

The deal, which follows nine months of negotiations, will see Bozell Direct Friends merge with COM’s direct marketing agency Fritsch Heine Rapp Collins. The combined business will be long-windedly rebranded Fritsch Heine Rapp Collins and Direct Friends, with an income of around $21 million.

The new acquisition will add clients such as Bertelsmann Book Club and Great Universal Stores to Fritsche Heine Rapp Collins’ portfolio, which already includes Sony Europe, DHL Worldwide Express and Electrolux.

True North’s executive VP Ramesh Rajan commented that Bozell Direct Friends had ceased to fit into the network following Bozell’s merger with FCB in 1999.
