Elements of D’Arcy, sentenced to dismemberment earlier this week by new owner Publicis [WAMN: 14-Oct-02], are to become the nucleus of a worldwide agency network dedicated to a single client – General Motors, already a leading Publicis account across the globe.

The new shop, as yet unnamed , will be headquartered in Detroit and chaired by Roger Haupt, president/ceo of Publicis Groupe. But the hand on the GM steering wheel day-to-day will be that of Patrick Sherwood, former ceo of D’Arcy North America, now president and chief operating officer of the new entity.

Says Haupt: “We formed this new agency with the support of GM. They have partnered with us every step of the way to design a new organisation that will reach a diverse consumer through creative marketing solutions.”

The move emulates that of Interpublic which last year formed Pentamark Worldwide dedicated to servicing its international DaimlerChrysler account.
