Cuts Begin at AOL With 300 Layoffs

News, 13 December 2002

Troubled internet giant America Online has reportedly axed 300 staff as it embarks on a major cost-cutting program.

Affected employees include administrative and support staff, software designers, account managers and database workers, mostly at AOL’s headquarters in Dulles, Virginia, and its office at Mountain View, California.

The layoffs represent around 1.5% of the group’s 18,000-strong workforce. Further cuts are expected as AOL attempts to slash costs by $100 million (€99m; £64m).
