London soccer club Crystal Palace is aiming to become the official soccer team for Walt Disney World.
“Disney wants to link up with a British club and we are just seeing if it could be us,” commented the club’s chairman Simon Jordan, who revealed he has been negotiating “a lucrative deal” with the media mammoth’s management.
Should an agreement be reached, Palace would conduct pre-season training at the theme park’s Wide World of Sports centre, while Disney would use the team’s presence to attract fans to the resort.
“A lot of people follow [soccer] and take their vacations here and to have that kind of activity here would obviously be of great benefit,” said Disney.
Despite being nicknamed the Eagles, the club is not exactly flying high at the moment – last season it only narrowly avoided relegation to the English Second Division.
