NEW YORK: US number one cable provider Comcast is about to sign a video-on-demand deal with the Walt Disney Company for hit shows such as Desperate Housewives and Lost.

According to the Wall Street Journal, for more than two years Comcast has sought primetime television programs to offer on its VOD service.

Comcast will also pay more than $1 billion (€780m; £526m) for the Mouse House's broadcast and cable programming, including ABC, ESPN and the Disney Channel. The deal also gives Comcast rights to use Disney promotional content on its high-speed internet portal.
