Coca-Cola has appointed a former Eastman Kodak executive as chief marketing officer – the first time it has looked outside its own ranks to fill the post.

Daniel Palumbo steps into the role, having resigned his position as president of Kodak’s consumer imaging unit last week. Palumbo is Coke’s third marketing boss in three years and replaces Steve Jones, who quit in March after sixteen years with the drinks colossus [WAMN: 14-Mar-03].

How the new chief marketing officer will work with Coke president/chief operating officer Steve Heyer is as yet unclear.

Heyer has taken an unusually prominent role in Coke’s marketing, overseeing the development of the new ‘Real’ campaign and even attending commercial shoots.
