Atlanta-headquartered Coca-Cola Company has called a review of its Powerade sports drink account.

For around a decade, Powerade’s advertising has been the responsibility of McCann-Erickson Worldwide Advertising in New York and Seattle, the agency which also handles the Coca-Cola Classic duties.

McCann has been invited to repitch for the account alongside three other Coke roster agencies: New York’s Cliff Freeman & Partners (responsible for Fanta); Berlin Cameron & Partners, also in New York (Nestea Cool, Dasani); and Portland, Oregon’s Wieden & Kennedy (Diet Coke).

Spend on Powerade totalled $32m last year, though this may increase in coming months in response to the planned purchase of its main rival, Gatorade, by PepsiCo [WAMN: 04-12-00].
