In a bid to turn round falling cola sales and see off new products from its rivals, Coca-Cola has named Chris Lowe as its first US chief marketing officer.

Previously senior vp for global marketing, Lowe will report to North American beverage boss Jeffrey Dunn and take charge of all stateside marketing activity in the newly created role.

America’s cola wars have intensified of late, with Coke announcing a new vanilla version of its flagship drink and PepsiCo responding with a berry-flavoured beverage.
