BEIJING: Chinese automakers confidently expect to produce and sell more than seven million cars domestically this year. They believe that by 2009 production and sales will surpass 10m - a growth rate that if maintained will make China the world's largest auto market by 2015.

During the first nine months of 2006, officials claim that market share of locally designed sedans rose to 26.4%, compared with less than 5% in the same period in 2001 - a growth rate claimed to exceed all other nations.
