COMCAST TO BUY TWO VIACOM SPORTS NETWORKS

News, 14 July 2000

America’s third largest cable TV operator, Comcast Corporation, agreed this week to purchase Midwest Sports Channel and Home Team Sports Channel from Viacom Inc. The price was not disclosed.

Midwest has 2.6 million subscribers in and around Minneapolis and Milwaukee, while Home Team boasts 4.7m in the Baltimore and Washington areas. Fox Entertainment Group, controlled by Rupert Murdoch, will retain around a one-third stake in the latter.

The deal will enhance Comcast’s existing pro basketball and hockey coverage.
