Ten media planning agencies, distilled from an original list of twenty-six, have survived into a final shootout for a place on the first strategic media planning roster for Britain’s COI Communications.

COI, an arm of the British government, is the interface with creative and media planning agencies for all state-funded advertising and marketing activity. Media planning and buying was previously the responsibility of COI’s creative shops.

The shortlist will be whittled to a six-strong roster, effective as of September. The contending ten – Media Edge, Mediavest, MGM, Naked, New PHD, OMD, Optimedia, Starcom Motive, Unity and Zenith – will present to COI chief executive Carol Fisher and Colin Buchanan, director of marketing communications.

According to the latter: “This is undoubtedly one of the industry's most important pitches of the year. The decision to create a separate media planning roster is a significant one for COI and we are keen to see how the agencies pitch.”
