COI Communications, the administrative interface between the British government and its roster of advertising and marketing agencies, has appointed ex-Saatchi & Saatchi International chairman Alan Bishop as its new ceo.
Bishop replaces Carol Fisher, who quit in July, and unlike his predecessor will be given a permanent contract, rather than a fixed term three-year deal. Peter Buchanan will stay on as deputy ceo.
After sixteen years with Saatchis, the new COI boss left the network in January as part of a management overhaul. He was chairman in London from 1997 to 1998, before taking an international role.
At COI he will control around 370 staff and – according to Nielsen Media Research – the nation’s largest advertising budget with a metered spend in 2001 of £206.02 million ($325.70m; €322.26m).
