In today's increasingly high-speed 24/7 society, CBS News has become the latest US network to unveil plans for a 24 hour broadband news platform, providing viewer content selection and an in-house blogger.

Keen to compete with digital offerings from rivals ABC News, CNN and the Cable News Network, the proposed expansion of will enable the broadcaster to tap into the spiralling online ad market, predicted to soar by 30% to over $10 billion (€8.2bn; £5.7bn) in 2005.

With the promise of exclusive reporting around the clock and insights into the news process through the blog 'Public Eye', CBS hopes it will capture the imagination of the 45 million Americans who have access to broadband at work.
