Londoner Nick Brien is poised to re-cross the No Man’s Land separating the teeth n’ suits world of ad agency frontpersons from the shirtsleeve domain of media planning and buying.

Currently ceo of Leo Burnett’s London office, Brien is to join Bcom3’s Starcom MediaVest Group in Chicago as president, US corporate business development. He will also spend time in New York evangelising the MediaVest brand.

During his stint with Leo Burnett, Brien’s reputation was enhanced by his development of the shop’s integrated marketing approach, successfully extending the concept across the hitherto traditional agency.

But his media credentials are equally impeccable. He started his career in London with Grey Advertising in 1982 and some years later founded BBJ Media Services, now part of the Carat Group.

BBJ soared to £100 million in billings within three years, attracting clients of the calibre of Walt Disney and Bass Brewers. Brien joined Leo Burnett as executive media director in August 1992 and moved up the ladder to ceo in 1997.
