Burger King president Robert Nilsen has quit after just thirteen months in the job.

Nilsen's unexpected resignation was announced "with mixed emotions" by the burger chain's chief executive Brad Blum, who promised to unveil a new operations leadership structure by the end of the week.

The outgoing president had been conducting an overhaul of BK's operations. However, the management's efforts have been controversial in some areas -- according to unofficial franchisee estimates, same-store sales have fallen 8% under Blum's leadership.

Last month, BK announced an abrupt change of ad agencies, replacing Y&R Advertising with Crispin Porter & Bogusky -- its third shop in three years [WAMN: 26-Jan-04].
