Having recently forged an internet-focused deal with AOL Time Warner [WAMN: 06-Nov-01], fast food chain Burger King has further strengthened its online presence through a strategic promotional alliance with web auction firm eBay.

From early next year, packaging for certain food items at BK’s restaurants will feature peel-off codes, which customers can use to earn points on a website jointly operated with eBay. These can then be used to bid for rewards listed on the site, such as CDs and concert tickets. One million prizes will be offered under the scheme next year.

Diageo-owned BK says it is committed to marketing on the web because 50% of its customers are internet users.
