Britain will lead the European ad recovery, according to a new survey.

The latest Ad Barometer report from OMD France and Interdeco (the ad sales house of Hachette Filipacchi) predicts that marketing spend across the seven countries it studies will rise 1.7% in 2003 to €150 billion ($161bn; £102bn). Britain will post the fastest growth, 2.3%, followed by France on 1.6%.

The twice-yearly survey covers Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Poland and Sweden. Advertising in these markets fell 1% last year to €148m, after tumbling 6.2% in 2001.

Direct marketing is due to have a particularly strong 2003, with forecast growth of 2.1% compared with 1.1% for media advertising.
