Britain's Northern & Shell, owner of national tabloid publisher Express Newspapers and a stable of soft-porn magazines (Asian Babes, Big Ones, Readers’ Wives and others of similar ilk), has held preliminary talks with American Media ceo David Pecker as to the possible joint launch of a US version of bestselling British celebrity magazine OK!
American Media’s flagship magazine, The National Enquirer, has much in common with OK!, both catering for a celeb-obsessed readership. But N&S stresses these are early days and that no launch is contemplated within the next twelve months
Richard Desmond, controversial owner of the privately held British group, has yet to hold a face-to-face with a possible US partner, although it is rumoured in the US press that his contact book contains the phone number of Victoria Gotti, daughter of ill-famed mobster John Gotti.
Word is that Ms Gotti has been sounded out about the US editor’s role but N&S insists it has yet to make her an offer she can’t refuse.
