The chief executive’s hot seat at J Walter Thompson UK – vacant since last October when Stephen Carter quit to become chief operations officer at one of the agency’s larger clients, cable and telecoms operator NTL – will from April 1 be filled by Simon Bolton.
Keeping the seat warm for Bolton in the interim is JWT chairman Tim Davis, who also doubles as head honcho on the global Unilever and Shell accounts.
Bolton (42), currently chief executive of FCB San Francisco, was originally a graduate trainee at Ogilvy & Mather London where he swiftly climbed the greasy pole to a senior job on the global American Express account. From thence to FCB San Francisco by way of FCB Malaysia and the regional directorship of FCB Asia.
Eulogised Michael Mädel, chief executive of JWT Europe: “Simon is a premier addition to our UK management team. He brings energy, passion and an ability to connect with clients and colleagues alike to deliver highly creative business solutions.”
