LONDON: Blogs (or weblogs) now attract one in every eighty-four visits to a website by UK-based surfers, reports Experian-owned Hitwise, a  web monitoring company with operations in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore.

UK-based visits to weblogs reached an all-time high during the week ending 7 June, with traffic to the Hitwise Lifestyle: Blogs and Personal Websites  category accounting for 1.19% of all UK web traffic.

Although a 1:84 ratio appears to be on the sparse side of meagre, growth in blog traffic is outpacing that of 'traditional' news, Hitwise reports. Over the last three years visits to blogs have grown 171% compared to 70% for news and media sites.

In terms of numeric visits, however, the latter still outnumbers the former.

Interestingly, blogs have a greater market share of visits in the UK than in the US. Blogs accounted for 1.09% of all internet visits in Britain during May, but only 0.73% in the US.
