Adrian Birchall, media doyen and one of the few surviving young media Turks of the late ’60s, is to step down from the chair of MediaVest UK at the year end. He will not be replaced in the immediate future; and chief executive Jim Marshall continues in his present role.

It was only this May that Birchall - founder of the former Media Centre in London, acquired in 1997 by the US-owned MediaVest network - assumed the chair of the UK operation with the launch of Starcom Mediavest Group.

Says Birchall: "I am very proud of what we were able to achieve in the early days of The Media Centre and later at MediaVest UK and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It has been very exciting to be involved with the merger of MediaVest and Starcom to create the Starcom MediaVest Group, one of the biggest media companies in the world."

Not to be outdone in eulogy, Kevin Malloy, chief executive of international operations for Starcom MediaVest, responded: "Over the course of his longstanding career, Adrian has made significant contributions both to the industry and to our media operations around the world."
