Another of the globe’s ailing media giants, Bertelsmann, is mulling the sale or shutdown of its online books and music businesses.

Up for grabs are and BeMusic, respectively valued at €2.1 billion ($2.06bn; £1.33bn) and €120 million. Several unnamed companies are said to have expressed interest.

Both units were the personal darlings of recently deposed chief executive Thomas Middelhoff, whose overwheening ambition fell foul of the group’s controlling Mohn family.
