German media giant Bertelsmann is planning to introduce a new version of its Japanese online bookshop which consumers can access via their mobile phones.

Alfred Tolle,’s vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region, stated that the new site would be launched on NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service.

This could be up and running “early next year”, said Tolle, adding that it would keep one step ahead of competitors like Amazon, whose own Japanese website launched a few weeks ago.
