Telecoms group BellSouth is reviewing its $200 million account and has asked twenty-nine agencies to submit proposals.

The Atlanta-headquartered company – which provides voice, data and broadband services in nine south eastern states – is looking for a shop to handle creative (both for general and ethnic markets), brand strategy, media planning, competitive tracking and online, direct response and database marketing. Media buying is excluded from the brief.

The account is presently split between Merkley Newman Harty in New York and Atlanta’s WestWayne, both of which have been asked to repitch. Media planning and buying is currently handled by Initiative Media in Atlanta.

BellSouth will narrow the field before meeting agencies in October. A decision is expected before the end of the year.
