BURGER KING SHORTLISTS SIX FROM FIFTEEN SHOPS

Contenders for Burger King’s estimated $400 million US general market advertising account have been whittled from fifteen to just six.

Interpublic-owned shops account for half the shortlist: present incumbent Lowe Lintas & Partners (New York), Campbell Mithun (Minneapolis) and McCann-Erickson Worldwide (New York). Two of the remaining three contestants belong to Groupe Publicis: Publicis & Hal Riney (San Francisco) and Saatchi & Saatchi (New York).

For unknown reasons Miami-based Burger King, part of the UK’s Diageo group, was coy about the identity of the sixth mystery finalist. However, informed sources believe it to be Grey Worldwide in New York, which refused to comment on the matter.

The winner is expected to be announced early in 2001.
