BUNGEY RESIGNS FROM BATES TO DEVOTE HIMSELF TO CORDIANT

News, 19 September 2000

Bates Worldwide chairman and chief executive Michael Bungey plans to quit both posts next year in order to narrow his focus on his other role as chief executive of parent group Cordiant Communications.

Insiders say his probable replacement is Bates Europe chairman Jean de Yturbe, who will also continue to work on extant development project, CCG United, marketing to Bates’ clients other group services such as design and PR.

A mirror pan-Cordiant initiative focussing on e-commerce strategy is CCG.XM, to be led as chairman and chief executive by Ian Smith, group president of Bates in New York.
