LONDON: The UK's biggest telco, BT, reported a sharp 30% fall in profits before tax and exceptional items to £447 million ($870m; €596m), the result of £76m restructuring costs as it focuses more on broadband and software services.

However, it chose to highlight gains in broadband customers during fiscal Q3 period – 35% of all new connections in the UK.

Overall revenues during Q3 rose one per cent to £5.15 billion, below analysts' expectations.
