BRITISH AIRWAYS WITHHOLDS SPONSORSHIP TRANCHE FROM MILLENNIUM DOME

News, 02 May 2000

An unresolved dispute between British Airways and the New Millennium Experience Company (organiser of London's Millennium Dome) has led to the UK national airline withholding part of its sponsorship payments. The dispute centers around the allegedly unsatisfactory maintenance of the Dome’s so-called Home Planet Zone. Meantime, the ill-fated venture will tomorrow report attendance figures substantially down on its target of 32,000 visitors a day. Chief executive Pierre-Yves Gerbeau, recently imported from Disneyland Paris, declared his disappointment with the previous week’s attendances (which included the Easter holiday) of around 17,000 daily. Bad weather was cited as a reason for poor visitor numbers – despite the fact that the Dome is an undercover venue!
