Lord Borrie QC is to be the new chairman of the Advertising Standards Authority. He will replace incumbent of six years, Lord Rogers of Quarry Bank.

Borrie, a former director general at the Office of Fair Trading and council member of the Consumer’s Association, is currently chair of the Direct Marketing Authority and was made a life peer in 1995.

Says Borrie: “I am pleased and honoured to follow Bill Rodgers as chairman of the ASA. I hope my background in consumer protection, the law and in commerce will assist the Authority in its work. I have known and approved of the value to the public of the ASA for many years, especially during my time as Director General of Fair Trading.”
