THE GERMAN CARMAKER’S UK financial services facility, until recently contracted-out to Lloyds Bowmaker, may be managed internally within the BMW/Rover group from now on. Petra Karp, chief executive of BMW Financial Services, has drawn-up plans to bring the group’s credit business in-house and extend it to embrace savings accounts and mortgages. Rover’s car-financing facility is currently in the hands of Lombard Tricity Finance whose contract expires next spring. Says Rover marketing director Martin Runnacles, a recent BMW appointee: 'People trust brands like BMW and that trust can be exploited in financial services. We are looking at exploiting financial services in the way supermarkets do.'
