The BBC, Britain’s public TV and radio network, is setting up a new division to offer businesses internet and broadcast services.
BBC Technology will provide support and consultation in developing and using media both in the on- and offline worlds. Among the services on offer are streaming internet delivery, IT and intranet solutions, satellite links and media technology.
The move will put the BBC in competition with internet agencies such as Razorfish, Framfab, Agency.com and IconMediaLab. With first-year turnover predicted at £185 million, the new division may well add fuel to the debate over commercialism at the publicly funded BBC [WAMN: 12-Feb-01].
