BBC Worldwide, the publishing arm of the British state broadcaster, has reached across to the Indian sub-continent in bid to boost royalties from its magazines portfolio.

BBCW and India's Times Group, publisher of the country's largest daily newspaper, have set up Worldwide Media to produce and market titles from both partners.

Says Vineet Jain, chairman of the new venture: "Together, we will bring to our readers our collective skills and aim successfully to produce and market magazines that capture the pulse and mood of readers."

The BBC believes the rapidly developing and increasingly affluent Indian market has enormous potential. The corporation already has a strong foothold in the vast country via its World Service radio offerings and BBC World digital TV channels.
