UK publicly funded broadcaster the BBC says its BBC2 channel will be simultaneously transmitted via the internet next year.
The move comes as the BBC bids to extend its reach to viewers online and through cellphones. Says channel controller Roly Keating: "I believe that BBC2 in the broadband age could flourish in ways unimaginable in the first forty years of its existence."
The channel and its flagship sibling, BBC1, lost 6% of UK audience share in the first ten months of this year, according to latest British Audience Research Bureau figures [WAMN: 23-Nov-05].
