Axel Springer to Test New German Upmarket Tabloid

Inspired by the success of Britain's The Independent and Murdoch-owned replica The Times, Axel Springer, Germany's largest publisher is to pilot Welt Kompakt, a new upmarket national daily tabloid.

The test using a 32-page tabloid format will run for eight weeks, Monday through Friday, in the Dusseldorf area.

Costing €0.50 Welt Kompakt will feature editorial from two other Springer titles: Die Welt and Berliner Morgenpost.
