PARIS - The computer giant blasted French lawmakers over legislation to force software companies to remove controls that limit customers' ability to play downloaded songs on rival devices.
Apple Computer, maker of the iconic iPod music player, claims the move will lead to "state-sponsored piracy" and legal music sales will plummet just when legitimate alternatives to piracy are winning over customers.
The company denies its outrage is prompted by concerns that the law could undermine iPod sales.
