ST LOUIS: Anheuser-Busch, is reportedly in talks with Mexican beer maker Grupo Modelo about an alliance to help the Budweiser-brand brewer resist the unwelcome £46.3 billion ((€30.03bn; £23.7bn) approach from Belgian giant InBev.

A-B already owns a 50% stake in Modelo, best known for its Corona brand, and believes that acquiring the rest could make the whole entity too expensive for InBev's tastes.

The Wall Street Journal reports A-B approached Modelo ceo Carlos Fernandez about a deal in recent weeks when it became increasingly likely that In-Bev would make a move.

However, negotiations will be delicate because of hostility between the two family-run businesses, which tied the knot in the early 1990s.
