ST LOUIS: Budweiser beer brewer Anheuser-Busch is the target of a $46.3 billion (€30.03bn; £23.7bn) acquisition bid from giant Belgian-headquartered rival InBev.
A merger of the European maker of the Stella Artois and Beck's brands with the US firm would create the world's biggest brewer, controlling around one quarter of the global market.
A-B's board says it will study the proposal "carefully" and will be "consistent with its fiduciary duties and in consultation with its financial and legal advisers".
In addition, says a statement: "The board will pursue the course of action that is in the best interests of Anheuser-Busch's stockholders."
Says InBev's ceo Carlos Brito: "We respect the Anheuser-Busch board a lot ... we admire them a lot and we think that the business rationale is very strong."
