SEATTLE: Online retail giant has recorded its best holiday season trading figures since it began operating in 1994, the company reports.

On its busiest day over the Christmas period, Amazon sold some 5.4 million items - equivalent to 62.5 items per second - while deliveries were made to over 200 countries.

The Nintendo Wii was one of the most popular products of the festive period, and Amazon sold around 17 consoles per second when the product was in stock.

Among the top sellers on the website was the Jakks EyeClops Bionic Eye - a magnifying device that plugs into television sets - as well as electronic goods like the Garmin GPS and Samsung high definition TVs.
