Following increasing criticism of the annual 'upfront' TV bargaining bazaar [WAMN: 25-Mar-04], America's advertisers and agencies have summoned executives from broadcast and cable networks to attend a Network Upfront Discussion Group.

Called by the Association of National Advertisers and the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the first such event of its kind is scheduled for New York on April 29. It will be strictly limited to invited attendees.

O Burtch Drake, president/ceo of the 4As was in determined mode: "We believe the upfront is an arena that requires continued collaboration and discussion with the TV networks," he said.

The advertiser-agency alliance has already decided to hold a second meeting in advance of the upfront kick-off on May 17.
