The UK's largest commercial broadcaster ITV boasted a first half profit rise and accelerating advertising sales that showed their greatest increase since 2000.
Profit before tax, goodwill and exceptionals for the six months to June 30 was £132 million ($235.6m; €193.4m). This represents a 42% increase if the Carlton Communications-Granada merger had occurred a year earlier.
Although the £989m turnover fell short of analysts' expectations of up to £1.08bn, ad revenue was up by 4%, the best performance since the internet boom at the start of the decade. Third quarter ad sales have now been predicted to rise by 5.2%.
