A survey by Harris Interactive and US Bancorp Piper Jaffray of 97,633 adult online users highlights the internet's growth and growth as a consumer sales medium.
Overall, online consumer expenditure grew in the second quarter to $8.3 billion – up 18% from the first quarter's total of $7bn.
Leading the field as America’s strongest e-commerce brand is Amazon.com, followed by eBay, Yahoo! and priceline.com. In terms of dollar sales, the prime category is travel – also the fastest growing sector with sales soaring 19% from the first quarter to $2.4bn in the second.
