AMAZON UK NOTCHES 2M CUSTOMERS

News, 13 September 2000

The British offshoot of US-owned online bookseller Amazon.com has just acquired its two millionth customer, making it the first European e-tailer to achieve the magic figure.

According to Steve Frazier, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, the site is adding new customers at the rate of 125,000 monthly.

Sceptics note that no Amazonian – on either side of the herring pond – is mentioning matters as uncool as profitability.
