ST LOUIS: Anheuser-Busch, US brewer of the iconic Budweiser brand, has launched a legal counter-attack to Belgian giant InBev's attempts to oust its board as part of an increasingly acrimonious takeover tussle.

AB's lawsuit alleges that InBev is using "deceptive conduct" to win control of its acquisition target and that it has made "numerous false and misleading statements" in connection with its $46.3 billion (€30.03bn; £23.7bn) unsolicited offer.

The US beer giant claims the bid undervalues the company and accuses InBev - best known for its Stella Artois brand - of attempting the acquisition at a bargain price.

A merger between the two firms would create the world's largest brewer.
